SYSA is a family orientated team. We are highly staffed and we build on the success of everyone that is a part of our family. We are more than a sports team; we are a family, with good understanding of what it takes to be successful.
We commit ourselves to the children, to teach, to guide, and to motivate them in a positive way.
By showing them that it’s not about just playing football or participating in cheer, its about
becoming a productive member of society.
Our primary focus is “All about the kids.”
We understand that the parents and the children are the individual who make our league and our organization successful; therefore, they are our primary focus.
We will provide a professional, supportive, and uplifting environment for the children to learn their sport and build their confidence through competition.
Our participant parents have a voice and are part of our team. Together, we believe that we will build a program like no other that parents, staff, and participants can be proud of.
J.W. (Toady) Bearden was the person who started Seagoville Sports Association . Mr. Bearden started a baseball team to play the Salvation Army on Elam Rd. He had to turn a lot of boys away each year, so he had the idea of Seagoville having their own little league.
Mr. Bearden was a Dallas fireman at the time and had the talent to teach and coach young boys to play baseball and football. He himself had been an excellent athlete, in school and out. Mr. Bearden had two boys of his own and of course he wanted them to play ball. After the spring of 1968, playing at the Salvation Army on Elam Rd, it became evident to form the Seagoville Youth Sports Association.
It took quite a lot of men and women that met to organize the plan. There was a lot of work that went into building. The only ball field Seagoville had at that time was on May Rd, back in the right corner. The rodeo grounds were in the front.
The City of Seagoville closed down the rodeo and let SYSA have the whole area. The men worked putting up lights and fences, making fields to play on. Since then more fields have been added, new lights and improvements.
When Creekside Mobile Home Park was put on HWY 175, they had to remove alot of dirt. The dirt was hauled to May Rd to build it up. The City of Seagoville later named the ball field on May Rd Bearden Park after Mr. Bearden for all his volunteer work.
The teams raised money by selling candy, Pepsi and donations. They money went to buying equipment and uniforms.
When it wasn't baseball season, it was football. The sports association did not have the money for umpires, at the time the prison let trusted inmates out to referee games. We would have to pick them up and take them back. This went on for a few years.
The Seagoville Sports Association was formed by J.W. (Toady) Bearden and others who had boys and later girls that wanted to play ball. This took place in 1968 and 1969.
Many years later the Seagoville Sports Association changed the name to Seagoville Youth Sports Association once cheerleading and softball was added.
Bearden baseball fields were later turned into baseball and softball fields only, with a 2 story building with concession stand at the bottom and boardroom at the top. All built by volunteers.
In 1969 across the HWY of 175 next to the federal prison. There was land that the prison owned that they donated to SYSA to build the football field. With the help of the city, parents and volunteers of SYSA, they created a football field and a small area for concession.
With the help of the city, community and determined volunteers they brought youth sports to Seagoville.
Since 1968 our volunteers, parents and board members have dedicated many hours to SYSA. And we watn very much for our association to continue teaching and keeping our kids off the street and out of danger. We are truly needed in the community and hope to continue to make history for many more years to come.
